Toughened vs. laminated glass: choosing the right shield

Toughened glass (tempered)

If it does break under extreme force, it is engineered to disintegrate into thousands of small granular pieces with blunt edges, rather than dangerous shards and splinters. Laminated glass

Laminated glass is constructed by sandwiching a tough plastic interlayer (typically polyvinyl butyral or PVB) between two glass panels. If an impact occurs, the glass fractures but remains firmly adhered to the internal plastic interlayer. Because the pane stays intact within the frame, it provides continuous security against intruders and acts as a protective barrier against falling through the opening. This type of glass is heavily utilised in high-security windows and entrance door panels.
