Bereco are Brexit ready!

Since the referendum of 2016 when the UK voted to leave the EU here at Bereco we have been preparing to face any challenges that leaving the EU single market on 31st December 2020 may present and as a result we are Brexit ready ensuring that the way in which we trade with you both now and in the future remains completely unchanged as do our products and services.

Bereco Red Front Door
On 31st January 2020 the UK officially left the EU and has now entered into a transition period that lasts until 31st December 2020. The purpose of this transition period is for the UK and the EU to enter into trade negotiations and to establish a trade deal before 31st December 2020 so we know as a nation how we will trade with the EU from this date.
During this transition period and up until 31st December 2020 there will be no changes to our terms of trading with the EU; free trade continues uninterrupted without customs declarations and without border controls. The way in which we receive our products from the EU for now has not changed, so in short, yes, it is business as usual for Bereco and for our suppliers.
  1. Both Bereco Ltd and Bereco Retail Ltd are registered UK Economic Operators or EORI registered companies, our registration numbers are: Bereco Ltd GB829543306000 & Bereco Retail Ltd GB997103296000.

  2. Bereco Ltd and Bereco Retail Ltd have an established relationship with a customs agent to make any required customs declarations on our behalf. Our customs agent has over 45 years’ experience working for a large number of clients in a range of industries and manage regular services between 1,000 global origins and destinations.

  3. Our customs agent are both a freight forwarder and a customs agent and will take care of the transport from the EU to the UK and through any customs border along with all the required documentation required for clearing should it be necessary.

  4. We are now receiving our deliveries from the EU by sea container. Our trials in 2019 were incredibly successful and last year we imported around 10% of all our windows and doors by sea container and have a target of 25% in 2020 with that target increasing to 50% from January 2021. In carrying out these trials we also found that the environmental impact of transporting our windows was greatly reduced with sea freight giving an incredible 85% reduction in CO² emissions compared to our traditional road freight.

  5. We continue to maintain a fully integrated supply chain with our own dedicated sawmill making the laminated sections for our windows as well as our on site glass manufacturing plant that makes around 87% of all of our sealed glass units.

If we leave the EU with a ‘No Deal’ it doesn’t mean that trade will stop with the EU, it simply means that we will begin trading with the EU under World Trade Organisation or WTO rules. The UK already trades with 24 other countries around the world on World Trade Organisation (WTO) trading terms. This is not a new concept or an unfamiliar one.
From 1st January 2021 in the event of a ‘No Deal’ the only thing that will change is the way we trade as a business with our EU based suppliers, as follows;
  • We will need to make customs declarations to import goods from outside the UK.

  • We may need to pay an import tax on certain goods we import from other countries.

The way in which we trade with you our customer remains completely unchanged as do our products and services.

On 1st January 2020 the UKCA mark will replace the CE Mark in the UK as a result of our separation from the EU. The current CE Mark and future UKCA mark is evidence that our windows and doors comply with a minimum set of harmonised product standards in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation. Whilst there will be a transition period for the change over of this certification until 31st December 2021 from 1st January 2021 all Bereco windows and doors will bear the UKCA mark. We will also continue to maintain our CE Mark assuring you that our products also meet the EU directive and you will be able to find both on our website in our certification pages

Our Commitment to our customers

We all have many questions about what the future holds between now and next year – Deal or No Deal?

Unfortunately, we don’t have the answer to this, but what we can assure you of is that at the Bereco Group we are doing everything necessary as a business to prepare for our exit from the EU single market. We commit to our customers that we will continue to:
