Reaching a milestone: World Land Trust have saved 10,000 acres of rainforest with the help of Bereco
We at Bereco have been working with World Land Trust for over a year and as part of their Buy an Acre scheme we set ourselves the ambitious target of saving 1,000 acres of rainforest. To achieve this, for every window and door you buy we are donating £1 to World Land Trust which is used to protect vital rainforest, habitat and threatened species. This is a cause we are particularly passionate about and are proud to report that between July and December 2017 we have saved 49 acres.
“World Land Trust thanks Bereco for your commitment to WLT’s Buy an Acre programme. Between July and December 2017, Bereco donations have helped to save and protect 49 acres of habitat for wildlife.” World Land Trust, May 2018.
We have worked extremely hard, and although this is a great achievement, we need your help in saving more acres. We would like to thank those customers that have joined us by making donations. Without your loyal support over the past year this would not have been possible. We are however intent on doing more so we ask that you join with us by matching our donation. All you need to do is simply place a tick in the box at order stage to match our donation. Often this can be as little as £1 but these donations really do add up and help to save real acres in real places.
With the help of your donations, we and other World Land Trust partners have reached an important milestone in saving 10,000 acres.
“In late 2017, Buy an Acre funding supported Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda (GESG) to purchase a 544 acre (220 hectare) property, which was strategically important to ensure the connectivity of one of GESG’s private reserves known as Hoya Verde. The purchase also highlights an important milestone reached for WLT and GESG who have been working together for ten years. Through the generosity of WLT supporters like Bereco, WLT has funded the protection of more than 10,000 acres (4,047 hectares) of land for species within Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve.” World Land Trust, May 2018
Since its beginnings in 1989, World Land Trust (WLT) has raised funds through Buy an Acre to save threatened tropical forests and other vital habitats, acre by acre. To date, WLT has saved more than 600,000 acres, supporting local partner organisations to create protected nature reserves across the globe. WLT uses Buy an Acre funds where land can be saved for an average of £100 an acre. In 2017, the support of members helped create and expand reserves in Argentina, Ecuador and Mexico to protect threatened habitats.
