Forming part of the Potton Self Build Show Centre at St Neots, Cambridgeshire, the Millchester Show House is a perfect demonstration of elegant Georgian style home designed and built by Potton Self Build. The Millchester, a 3,000 square foot 4 bedroom home required a complete facelift both internally and externally. The ambitious design concept for this newly revamped home was to blend a mix of both modern and traditional styles which is no mean feat.
This is a challenge that Potton Self Build are extremely familiar with, and the end result is a beautifully stylish, yet relaxed and comfortable rectory-style family home with a distinct opulence reminiscent of the Georgian era. Each design detail was carefully thought out to create a relaxing, open and airy space which featured shabby chic style interior furnishings and an eclectic mix of old and new.
This successful renovation features an impressive collection of our beautiful timber windows and doors all specifically designed in a Georgian style, in keeping with original detailing. In order to realise this design vision our design team worked closely with Potton in producing CAD visualisations and design inspiration. The result is a beautiful open plan living space, flooded with natural light with a sympathetic interior design scheme which pays homage to the show home’s origins and accentuates traditional design features.
Pride of place and the perfect entrance to the large airy hallway is a grand Bereco Traditional Flush Entrance Door which features Traditional paneling and is colour matched in a Farrow & Ball Downpipe Grey which is the perfect bold accent against the subtle internal paint finish. Brass hardware was selected which gives a feeling of grandeur. Featuring a selection of matching accessories such as brass hinges and door threshold, this front door really evokes a Georgian style.
The vast open plan kitchen dining space is flooded with natural light courtesy of two large expansive Bereco Traditional Folding Doors which fold back and provide unrestricted views of the garden space. Attention to detail is key in this well thought out design with the folding doors featuring the same panelling as the entrance doors in keeping with the Georgian design theme prominent throughout. This space really is the hub of the home and what is created is a beautiful and relaxed family space.
This expansive property is then made up of a collection of Traditional Sliding Sash Spiral Balance windows which are elegantly framed with a bespoke internal window surround which was designed to match the original detailing and is fully finished in Linen selected from our exclusive Heritage Paint Range. Each timber sliding sash window is designed with a Georgian 25mm ovolo bar pattern which optimises Georgian style yet allows daylight to fill the elegant interior.
This really is a well-balanced, light and relaxed, elegant family home with Georgian opulence, yet modern finishing touches.
